Abbey Wilder - Test Engineer

Hello! I’m Abbey Wilder and I am a senior in electrical engineering here at Iowa State University with a focus in embedded systems. My assigned role for this project is the test engineer. I will be in charge of staying on track with testing our design, as well as recording the results of each test. I will make notes of what works, what needs to be fixed, and what we need to change to fix it.

Benjamin Welte - Project Documentation

Hi, my name is Ben Welte and I am a senior in electrical engineering at Iowa State specializing in embedded systems. For this project, my primary focus is on project documentation, meaning that I had a big hand in creating the design document and status reports that you can find on this web site. I wrote the status reports myself, and for the design document I edited each member’s contributions (including my own) and integrated them into one document outlining our team’s goals, design, and strategies for testing and implementation. I have also been involved in writing software for our project’s microcontroller to tune the radio’s receiving and transmitting frequencies according to ethernet commands, a responsibility that coincides nicely with my interest in embedded systems.

Caroline Easley - Meeting Facilitator

Hello, my name is Caroline Easley. I am a senior in electrical engineering at Iowa State focusing on control systems and signal processing. My role on the team is meeting facilitator, this mean I lead the discussions we have to make sure we have productive meetings, and in general try to make sure we are staying on track in terms of our project goals and deadlines. On top of that I am also working with Marcelo to design and test the transmission part of the radio.

James Curtis - Meeting Scribe

Greetings, I’m James Curtis, currently a senior in electrical engineering at Iowa State University. My role for this project is the scribe. The main purpose of my role is to keep track of meeting minutes and share the key points with the group afterwards. As the meetings got more detailed, I also started keeping track of questions we have as well as a small to do list. I also help with the research and design of the receiver portion of this project.

Marcelo Abrantes - Chief Engineer: Power Systems

Hi, my name is Marcelo Abrantes. I am a senior in electrical engineering at Iowa State University specializing in VLSI design. My role on the team is Chief Engineer: Power Systems. I have mostly worked on the transmitter design with Caroline. Specifically, I have been focusing my research on local oscillators and filters. I have also been responsible for updating the team's website.

Michael Kuehn - Communications Director

Hey I’m Michael Kuehn and I’m a senior in electrical engineering here at Iowa State University. My assigned role on this project has been as head of outward communications. As such I manage all communications with non-team members. This gives a consistent point of contact for trying to get in touch with us, especially for our client, Collins Aerospace. I have also been working as a member of the receiver team. Specifically I have been focusing my research on demodulation, as well as filtering and some preliminary part selection.

Stepan Zelenin - Chief Engineer: Communications

Hi! I’m Stepan Zelenin and I’m an electrical engineering senior at Iowa State. My role on this project is the chief engineer of communications. I have been mostly working on researching the mixer and local oscillator technology for receiver applications, along with receiver architectures.
